Sports Photographer
Job description-Sports photographers use traditional and digital cameras to capture live images at games, matches, meets and races. Covers American football, baseball, basketball, car racing, hockey, horse racing, golf, gymnastics, swimming and soccer. She can specialize in one sport or work at a variety of events. She uses darkrooms to process pictures or specialized photo-editing software to prepare images for publication.Successful sports photographers must have patience, technical skill, quick reflexes and intricate knowledge of sporting events to anticipate key plays or photo opportunities. He must handle deadline pressure and work at live events with no room for error. Sports photographers need the flexibility to crouch, sit or stand for long periods of time. He must work in all weather conditions, carry bags of equipment, work irregular schedules and travel on short notice.
Necessary skills-A bachelor's degree with a concentration in photography is a usual requirement. Sports photographers often begin careers as assistants to more experienced photojournalists. An aspiring sports photographer should take courses in art, computer-assisted design, photographic design and processing. A self-employed sports photographer should take courses in business management and marketing.
Opportunity for growth within the career-The BLS projects job growth of 12 percent for photographers between 2008 and 2018. This figure represents a rate that's about as fast as other occupations. Digital technology enhancements will produce new opportunities for photographers, although there will be a reduced demand by news and print organizations, according to BLS.
Public/ or private settings that provide employment-Will have own studio, but will be on the road most of the time. They may capture photos of players in their studio but will always be at these sporting games and events
Starting salary as well as maximum pay for career-Salary starts at 24,000 and works its way up...depending on how known the event/sport/name/or person is. company, location, industry, experience and benefits also determines the salary. Equipment is very expensive.
